Fall Foraging Workshop and Dinner with Anthony Blowers, Southwest Michigan’s Mushroom Mogul and Founder of Facebook’s I Love Wild Mushrooms.

The Master of Mushrooms, the guy who put the fun back in foraging for fungus Anthony Blowers will be in the house Saturday September 19th for a Full- Day Foraging Workshop that will culminate in the kitchen for a Wild Forest to Table Dinner. The Higher Haven will also offer overnight accommodations for any travelers from Detroit or Chicago, or any locals who’d like to experience a serene bed and breakfast weekend away.

THE NATURE WALK & MUSHROOM HUNT FORAGING WORKSHOP (Noon – 5:30 pm)

Enjoy a hands-on, in-forest Introduction to Mushrooms, as we hunt local edibles species and other plants followed by a presentation on fun mushroom and food history, with hunting and harvesting, cooking and preservation techniques. Learn how to properly clean and cook your mushrooms and how to preserve and store them.

Noon – 1pm Introduction with Wild Snacks!

1pm – 3pm Mushroom Hunt and Nature Walk 

3pm – 5pm Presentation with Kitchen Time 

5pm – 6pm Q & A Wind-down and Close 

WILD FOREST TO TABLE DINNER (7:00 – 9:00 pm)

Join us for a special forest to table dinner prepared by Anthony. We’ll enjoy Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo with a Black Trumpet Mushroom/Wild Leek Cream Sauce, Steamed Milkweed Pods with mini Heirloom Tomatoes, Wild Greens Salad and Porcini/Ramp Butter Garlic Bread. Candy Cap Mushroom Ice Cream for dessert (pictured above!) and other sure surprises will accompany this rare culinary treat, a small seating with limited spots available.  

OVERNIGHT STAY (9:00pm – Sunday Mid-Morning) 

Our previous Nature Walk gatherings with Anthony revealed a number of people venturing from the Detroit, Chicago, Indiana areas who secure AirB&B Reservations. The Higher Haven happily offers overnight accommodations, two shared private rooms along with a dorm room with comfortable beds in a cozy, serene natural setting. Breakfast Sunday morning included.
