Come us join us for our first weekend retreat combining the relaxing, strengthening, physical practice of yoga applied in its original intent — to help keep the body supple and energized during periods of sitting meditation. A bit breezier compared to our Noble Silence Meditation Retreat Weekends (NMSRs), this is the perfect retreat for yoga practitioners looking to begin or deepen their meditation practice.

We’ll gather Friday night for a community dinner, stretch class and orientation to the weekend as well as our 20 acres of wetlands, grasslands and gorgeous, northern deciduous forest. Saturday morning we’ll dive into our signature Meditation + Mindfulness 101 class, covering the whole sweep of what sitting meditation is all about. Then throughout the weekend, we’ll come together for grounding sits, vigorous flows, a Saturday night healing fire Ceremony and healing Sunday morning Yin yoga class. Yin yoga is a wonderful practice of physical peace and release, connecting the energetic meridians of traditional Chinese Medicine with India’s yoga postures, concentrating both mind and body to release tension in the connective tissues. Not neccesarily a ‘beginner’ form, it can be more accessible because many of the postures are close to the ground, with less physical demand to hold poses. Instead of more active yoga poses like Ashtanga or Vinyasa, this Yang approach strengthens and lengthens by targeting the dense, connective tissues that hold our organs in place as well as connect our muscles at the joints. This serene, more limber space creates a safe container for practitioners to Let Go. Let go of what? Physical tension in the body, along with the mental idea of needing to control anything at all.

During this very special practice weekend, teacher Rebecca Ufkes will lead us with poetry, prose and gentle poses. Guided mediations focused on the purification of the senses — hearing, smelling, tasting, smelling and tender touch — will help bridge the gap between attendees and the natural world. And simple, healthy, delicious meals will, as always, help nurture our physical forms. Come listen to Rebecca as well as the wisdom of your own body, create a feeling of energetic well-being, and enjoy a peaceful weekend and place for restoration, release and renewal
